Crisp black and white stripes paired with a pop of yellow update a traditional nautical look! Next weekend I am headed up to the Boston area for a weekend getaway and already I am longing for a lobster roll at a seaside bistro. The smell of the ocean breeze always instantly gives me a sense of calm and peace. We'll definitely stop in Rhode Island on our way up and enjoy a stroll in one of the quaint towns, so in preparation of my little getaway here are my virtual picks for a seaside afternoon. I love the crispness of the black and white stripes paired with the pop of yellow in the po campo and survive bags. Usually, if I'm wearing something really bold I like to keep my jewelry more subtle like these hoops by Studio DuArte. Enjoy YOUR weekend! Click image to see the full set on Polyvore!
Berries are the perfect summertime treat! Fresh out of a berry bowl or in a yummy strawberry-rhubarb sauce!
Summertime is my favorite season. I love the heat, the color, the longer days and when the kids are out of school I relish not having the hustle and bustle of the early morning scramble to get kids off to school. That extra half hour of coffee (of course in my favorite handmade ceramic mug) out on a sunny patio is enough to start the day off perfectly!
And add to all of the above, I love delicious summertime berries. It seems as though it’s going to be a good berry year! I relish eating lighter and more colorfully in the summer – seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables are a big part of my family’s meals.
I love these new RS Handmade berry bowls we just got in. They are so bright, colorful and absolutely functional. You can wash your berries, let them drain and then leave them on the counter for everyone to snack on. I use them for cherry tomatoes too!
My favorite summer berry combination is strawberry & rhubarb. Such a mouth watering sweet/tart combo! It’s super easy to make and I use it to top greek yogurt, pancakes, or to make a quick and easy summer crisp with vanilla ice cream.
The recipe is simple – I usually wing it - but found this on a blog called www.beckybakes.net and she’s got some yummy photos as well! If you've never tried rhubarb then you are missing out!! Try it!
Strawberry Rhubarb Sauce
2 cups chopped rhubarb
2 cups sliced strawberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water In a medium saucepan; combine rhubarb, sugar, and water and simmer until rhubarb begins to get tender. Add strawberries and cook an additional 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve warm or keep chilled until ready to serve.
New York and Paris are NOT the only places where models strut down runways each season! Mother Nature was putting on some pretty bold displays of spring color and unique accessorizing during a hike I took in Red Rock Canyon this past weekend. Even in the middle of the dry desert, I observed a brilliant fashion show of greens, pinks, reds and oranges - proving Ms. Nature has an edgy glam style all her own. Betsey Johnson, eat your heart out! Psst...beehiveStyle is now on Pinterest! Click here to see what's currently inspiring us.
Take it from a professional stylist - don't be afraid to mix and match Spring's hottest hues! At some point in their lives, most women wish for their own personal stylist - or at the very least a bff with an amazing wardrobe and a talent for adding unique accessories. The best of both worlds has to be simply following stylist Jeanette Scott's blog: J's Everyday Fashion. Every other day, she recreates an outfit or look by a famous designer using pieces from her own wardrobe. Her mantra? Every closet has outfits waiting to be discovered. Her picks for Spring 2012's hottest hues? Greens and yellows because "almost any shade pairs well together." We love Jeanette's approach - interpreting modern trends in a stylish and practical manner, and were so pleased when she shared her choices for beehiveStyle accessories she'd select to pair with citrus-hued outfits from her own closet she'll be sporting during Spring 2012. Get inspired by Jeanette's bright style and find out which of our unique accessories she finds gossip worthy! Click here.
Baby it's cold outside, but not for long! These upbeat trends for Spring 2012 will give you something to look forward to during the last few weeks of winter: 1. From j.crew to Burberry, orange is EVERYWHERE for spring and summer. Lipstick, clothing, fun custom totes...you name it! 2. Love them or hate them, leopard print shoes are back. Both flats and heels were shown in abundance during New York's recent fashion week. 3. Mint! A cool and soothing hue to pepper throughout your Spring and Summer wardrobe. 1. A mint colored custom clutch by Paulina Carcach for beehiveStyle. Notice how well it pairs with the j.crew model's mint strappy sandals (at left). 2. Truly unique earrings made from legos by JacQueline Sanchez. These would look so sweet worn with the center model's orange skinny belt and lipstick.
