Spring 2012 color trends: Vibrant hues in a pleasing pallette!

The 2012 spring color pallette packs a punch, checkout what the Pantone folks are predicting. Lots of vibrancy and ecclectic tones that are not as hard to pair as you would think. Cockatoo/solar Power, tangerine/margarita, and cabaret/starfish are some of my favorites, I can't wait to pair them up for the spring! Color is the spice of life, whether your style is simple chic, mod retro, or classic style it's really easy to add just a colorful, unique accessory to give you an extra boost and a bit of optimism!

A couple of rules for mixing the hues...

1. There are none.

2. For guaranteed shade success stick to hues that are neighbors on the color wheel, blues and greens or yellows and oranges for instance.

3. For a real pop go for complementary colors (the ones across from each other on the color wheel), orange and blue or mint green and violet for example.

4. Go for the primary color look... red handbag, blue jeans, yellow top.

5. Have a comfort level with neutrals? Well go with it, but add just a pop of your favorite hue in a handbag, a handmade belt, a shoe, a piece of unique jewelry, it'll add a little zing to your day!

Display a collection of ceramic pieces, it's a great way to decorate!

Collecting is a great way to decorate! Here's how I've grouped a collection of white ceramic pieces on my mantle!

My husband and I have always loved combing through flea markets and antique shops and have several little collections going all the time. From vintage cameras and radios to old wooden fischer price toys, we have little vignettes all over our house and that's what we use to decorate with! I have a real passion for handmade ceramics. I have groups of like colored ceramics, both handmade pottery and production pieces, grouped together all over the house. I love how the different shapes, sizes and textures play off of each other and each piece holds a memory. Here's how I've decorated my mantle with a group of white ceramic pieces... Remember, if you have 3 or more pieces that work together you have a collection - find a special place for them. Voila, instant style!
