Unfortunately, living in Las Vegas might not be as wild and crazy as movies depict! I can assure you, my biggest daily challenge is NOT trying to figure out why there is a tiger in my bathroom.
Daily life changed radically for me four years ago this July - that will be the 3-year anniversary of my transplant from Georgia to Las Vegas. Before moving to Vegas? My world was full of weekend yard work, running my own business creating handmade jewelry, and working at the adorable and quaint Evolve boutique, located in the village near Atlanta's Emory University. My partner's job transfer led to a very quick (as in 3 weeks notice) move to Sin City. Talk about shock! Also shocking? How quickly 3 years has flown by! In homage to the approach of summer, here's a taste of what daily life in Las Vegas is like:
3 tips for surviving life in Las Vegas (or any hot climate) in style?
1. Hydrate : That means alot of water. I've read that you should drink one half of your body weight in ounces. This means that if you weigh 150 pounds, then 75 ounces of water a day is the right amount. In my opinion, the more, the better!
2. Wear loose-fitting clothing : It is possible to have great summer style, even when you don't feel like wearing anything except your bathing suit! Think unique sundresses, shorts outfits with flow-y tops, and of course - sandals! I've pinned a selection of my favorites for the season to our currently trending board on pinterest.
3. Moisturize : 114 degree heat with wind blowing like a hot hair dryer in your face - that's what life in the Sahara Desert is like. Sandal wearing is a must, but that exposes your heels. Shorts and sundresses leave knees and elbows more parched than normal. To survive Summer in style (and in an effort to not turn into a desert lizard) I use everything in the Skin Stick Bundle from Rinse Soap. The Pepfoot Stick - twice a day on my heels. Skin Stick? Anywhere else I'm feeling a bit dehydrated. Delicious all-natural lip balms? In my handbag, beside my bed, and on my bathroom counter! In general, I greatly prefer using hand-crafted bath and body products, I like their smell better and feel they do a better job moisturizing. The great thing about Rinse products? Most of them are portable and airline friendly. A must for summer travel!
Happy (almost) summer...and take it from a local: what happens in Vegas? Not as much craziness as you'd think!
