Berries are the perfect summertime treat! Fresh out of a berry bowl or in a yummy strawberry-rhubarb sauce!
Summertime is my favorite season. I love the heat, the color, the longer days and when the kids are out of school I relish not having the hustle and bustle of the early morning scramble to get kids off to school. That extra half hour of coffee (of course in my favorite handmade ceramic mug) out on a sunny patio is enough to start the day off perfectly!
And add to all of the above, I love delicious summertime berries. It seems as though it’s going to be a good berry year! I relish eating lighter and more colorfully in the summer – seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables are a big part of my family’s meals.
I love these new RS Handmade berry bowls we just got in. They are so bright, colorful and absolutely functional. You can wash your berries, let them drain and then leave them on the counter for everyone to snack on. I use them for cherry tomatoes too!

My favorite summer berry combination is strawberry & rhubarb. Such a mouth watering sweet/tart combo! It’s super easy to make and I use it to top greek yogurt, pancakes, or to make a quick and easy summer crisp with vanilla ice cream.
The recipe is simple – I usually wing it - but found this on a blog called www.beckybakes.net and she’s got some yummy photos as well! If you've never tried rhubarb then you are missing out!! Try it!
Strawberry Rhubarb Sauce
- 2 cups chopped rhubarb
- 2 cups sliced strawberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
In a medium saucepan; combine rhubarb, sugar, and water and simmer until rhubarb begins to get tender. Add strawberries and cook an additional 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve warm or keep chilled until ready to serve.
