Set a luxurious and creative table for your next dinner party. BUT. Start with the right foundation!
I'm a big fan of interesting and out of the box thinking when it comes to home decor and style in general. I love items that are quirky, mix matched, colorful, handmade and unique. But underneath it all I am a traditionalist, I believe the fundamentals are there for a reason - to provide a solid foundation and context for all of us to co-exist.
When it comes to something like setting a table for a dinner party, I say by all means make a statement that is all you! Gather your favorite handcrafted ceramics and embellish your table in a way that treats your guests to a singular experience. However, underneath that stylish creativity make sure the underpinning is flawless! Here's a quick refresher on how to set a proper table setting, just in time for your next soiree!

(right click the graphic and feel free to download as a reference!)From upper left travel clockwise: Side plate with butter knife, teaspoon and dessert fork, water glass-red wine glass-white wine glass, cocktail fork-soup spoon-teaspoon-knife, dinner plate and salad plate, dinner fork-salad fork and lastly the napkin. Whether you are into monochrome, monograms or mash up, a table that is set properly will always create a sense of calm and order for your guests. The host is responsible for setting the tone - so take charge and do it the right way! There are so many ways to add your personal stamp to a table setting from unique handmade ceramics to warm natural materials to an ecclectic selection of vintage rarities, but underneath it all (in my opinion at least) it should be sophisticated, elegant and above all should do justice to the hard work and energy that you've put into preparing and sharing a wonderful meal. Check out some of our favorite table top accents! Post a picture of your stylish table setting on our facebook wall! Inspire us!

Eco friendly, up-cycled design equals chic modern style in the hands of in2green's founders!
Meet Lori Slater and Jill Dietz of in2green! We absolutely love visiting their studio and warehouse in Yonkers, NY. It's lined floor to ceiling with brightly hued, eco friendly, blankets, pillows and accessories in graphic patterns that just make us want to have "one of each please". BUT not only are these covetable throws stylish but they are a great example of what great product design can accompish.
In2green was started to improve and develop what is possible using recycled materials, "our goal is to re-engineer common products so that they are more beautiful and more sustainable". Today, in2green products are 100% sweatshop free, made in the USA and Central America. The idea is to find second generation uses for products, saving water and adding less chemical pollutants to the environment. Years ago, GREEN was just a color, today it has become a symbol of a new lifestyle.

In2green blankets and throws are made using the principles of up-cycling. In2green cotton throws are made from sustainable yarns, often using ECO2cotton™, a recycled cotton alternative in beautiful heather and mélange colors. The cotton used in this yarn is recycled from factory waste so no new land development is necessary and far less water, chemicals and dyes are needed. Since the original material, pre-consumer textile table cutting waste, is refiberized and spun back into yarns, unique colorations from the color blending process are possible. We achieve true innovation at a fraction of the environmental cost.
So, as you think about perking up your home for spring with a new throw or blanket, definitely consider these innovative and super chic blankets from in2green. They are definitely a FEEL GREAT product!

Heading somewhere fun this summer? Why not consider creating a travel journal of your next trip. Here are some tips to get started!
Journaling is a great way to express yourself. It can help you get to know yourself and acknowledge all the things you are thinking and feeling. If you're not up for a daily journal why not start by trying to journal on your next trip? It's a great way to keep those happy trip memories alive and save the thoughts and ideas that come to you during your travels. Here are a few tips to get you started. But remember there is no right and wrong way to do it - just free yourself to do whatever fits your style and personality! First start with a journal that feels comfortable and that you will enjoy opening each day. Of course we can only sing the praises of our handcrafted Rustico leather journals which come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and are made to withstand the rigors of travel.

1. You can start before you've even left home. What are you looking forward to? What are your preconceptions on what you're going to see? What are you curious about? What are you afraid of? What do you hope to do, see, accomplish personally? 2. Document the mundane... What did you pack and why? Did you use all of what you brought...did you forget something crucial? How was the flight? Were there any funny occurrences during your travel day? Even writing about the inevitable frustrations of travel can help calm you and get you back into a relaxed state of mind. 3. Describe the sights, scents, smells once you arrive. Those first sensory impressions are so vivid and just jotting them down in stream of consciousness writing is a wonderful way to relive the moment. 4. Write a bit each evening and insert any tickets or ephemera you've saved. What did you eat, where did you go, what did you buy, how did you feel? Nothing is too boring and you can relive the entire trip this way for a lifetime! 5. Or alternately, choose specific details of your trip to elaborate on and relish the luxury of delving into a specific scene, encounter or experience. We don't get many opportunities to slow down and cherish the moments in our daily lives. Certain experiences may be very poignant and just exploring the details of a conversation or unusual meal will spark vivid detail. 6. If you can draw, even a tiny bit, bring along some colored pencils and sketch unabashedly. These doodles will become priceless remembrances of your trip. So why not give it a try! We are certain that you will enjoy the end result and cherish the journal for the rest of your life!
