At heart, Rag & Bone Bindery is a family affair. What started in 1991 as a shared interest between owners Jason Thompson & Ilira Steinman has blossomed into a business rooted in fine craftsmanship and enduring beauty. The Rag & Bone story began with a gift, a hand-bound blank page journal Ilira made for Jason on his 23rd birthday. Touched and inspired, he was soon studying and practicing the art of bookbinding on his own. With a box of beautiful books in hand, his first batch of handcrafted journals was sold to a small stationery store in Providence. Within a few years, new book styles and bindings including Photo Albums and Guestbooks were added. As demand for Rag and Bone Bindery’s products grew, additional bookbinders were hired and soon more retailers were carrying Rag & Bone books throughout New England! To this very day, a shared interest in the artful and handmade continues to feed Ilira and Jason’s lifestyle and business. Each book is created solely by hand: the fabrics and papers are cut by hand, the boards (covers) are glued and wrapped by skilled bookbinders. Rag & Bone Albums are each drilled and sewn by hand one-at-a-time, and their journals and other bindings are assembled using traditional bookbinding tools and techniques. Currently located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Rag & Bone Bindery continues to create objects of exceptional quality and design. Well-bound. Made to last.
